Children from five local netball clubs and a school have been recruited to carry out the role of Field of Play Assistants at this summer’s World Cup in Liverpool.

A prestigious position reserved for the younger netball community, Field of Play Assistants perform a key function at elite netball matches. They are responsible for returning the ball when it flies from the court, preparing team benches and maintaining the court in pristine condition.

Aged between 12 and 18 years old, those selected to take part in this year’s World Cup hail from the North West region. Capricorn Netball Club, Phoenix Netball Club, Winwood Junior Netball Club, Wirral Gems Junior Netball Club, Southport Netball Club and Wirral Grammar School were all successful in their applications for the role.

The 60 girls taking up the position will have the opportunity to be part of netball’s pinnacle event. They will experience the atmosphere of the roaring crowds and be inspired by seeing some of the world’s best netball players in action.

Winwood netball club commented; “This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for us to experience the World Cup first-hand and in our home town of Liverpool. We’ll have a chance to see the best netball the world has to offer and watch players who we look up to and aspire to be.”

Wirral Grammar School said “It is so exciting to have the Vitality Netball World Cup local to us this summer. The girls are incredibly excited to be involved and to get to see the action and their netballing heroes up close and personal!”
