Peace Proscovia

From PE sports hall to world stage. Peace Proscovia shooting skills have taken further than she'd dare to dream...

From humble beginnings to the world stage, Uganda She Cranes captain Peace Proscovia has had quite the journey through her netball career. Raised in Uganda where women face forced marriages and little educational support, Proscovia found netball at the age of 12, having been introduced to the sport in her school PE lessons.

Thirteen years on, Proscovia’s outstanding shooting skills have seen her catapulted to the world stage, playing against the best teams in the world. 2018 has been a great year for Proscovia; winning Vitality Netball Superleague player of the season 2018 and captaining her country at the Commonwealth Games.

Proscovia now adds the title of Vitality Netball World Cup 2019 ambassador to her list of achievements. As we welcome her on board, we caught up with her to get under the skin of the shooting sensation.

How excited are you for the Vitality Netball World Cup 2019?

Netball is heading in an amazing direction which gives great hope for me and will be great for younger generations, the game and field is becoming very competitive. The World Cup is going to be interesting because all the teams attending have worked so hard to get there and are champions of their regions, so the competition will be fierce.

How is netball impacting Uganda?

Right now in Uganda, netball is lifting individuals from nothing to something. Many girls in the Uganda netball team have been able to go to university free, and get jobs just because of netball. As a team, we have also been able to see the world and that’s why I see netball as a tool for sustainable development.

What do you think will be your biggest challenge at the Vitality Netball World Cup 2019?

Not knowing what your opposition is going to present and the strength of our opposition, but we are well prepared and will be ready to face it.

If you weren’t playing netball for your country, what would you be doing?

I would be a farmer.

What is your favourite holiday destination and what do you like doing on holiday?

My favourite destination would be the Sunshine Coast. Going to the beaches and enjoying the gift of nature is truly amazing.

What is your favourite naughty treat?

Italian baked pasta – it’s so delicious!
