Our planet is important to us so we are working hard to ensure we minimise the environmental impact of the Vitality Netball World Cup 2019 where we can. Here are a few things we will be doing throughout the event:
Did you know that one recycled plastic bottle would save enough energy to power a light bulb for three netball matches? We would love it if spectators watching matches in the M&S Bank Arena Liverpool made use of the water fountains around the concourse to refill their bottles. Please refer to our spectator regulations for more information about what you can bring into the arena.
Recycling will be encouraged with the use of bins dotted around the arena concourse and outside on the piazza. M&S Bank Arena recycle 70% of the contents of the bins off-site with 0% going to landfill.
Recyclable plastic bags, will be available at the merchandise stalls for the small charge of 10p per bag, the bags will be made of LDPE 4 which is widely recyclable within the UK. We are keen to minimise the use of plastic at our event where possible and encourage you to bring a bag with you for any items you may purchase. Please note spectators watching in the arena are only permitted to bring one bag no larger than 40x40x40cm into the venue. Money raised from the sale of our recyclable bags will be put towards the Vitality Netball World Cup 2019 sustainability work to minimise the environmental impact of the event.
Our host city of Liverpool is well connected with public transport routes from all major towns and cities and we are encouraging the use of public transport or car-sharing where possible to minimise the number of cars on the road.
Vitality Netball World Cup 2019 has worked with CSM LIVE on the production of the event branding and signage. CSM LIVE is committed to the continuous improvement and environmental compatibility of its products and has a goal to phase out all single-use plastics in their products and services. Where possible, waste signage will be returned to the factory or broken into individual component parts and recycled or disposed of at other suitable locations.
Catering for spectators inside the venue will be provided by Centerplate and disposable catering utensils (packaging, knives and forks) will be supplied by Vegware. Where possible, compostable cups, cutlery and food packaging will be provided and all plastic items will be recyclable. Vegware’s catering disposables are made from plants using renewable, lower carbon, recycled or reclaimed materials, and can all be commercially composted with food waste where accepted.
Office stationery and supplies that have been purchased for the purpose of the Vitality Netball World Cup 2019 will be donated to other event organisations.
Where possible, we have minimised waste by hiring equipment rather than purchasing new items. This includes the court floor, exercise bikes for players to warm up on and storage units for the back of house functional areas. Where possible, the companies used to hire equipment have been contracted from the North West to reduce the carbon footprint of vehicle movement.
